CoolSculpting FAQs

How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is technology that uses cold temperatures to kill fat cells. The technology was developed when it was discovered that children who sucked on popsicles lost fat in their cheeks. It was researched and a temperature was discovered where fat cells die but skin, blood vessels and nerves don’t. CoolSculpting uses handpieces to suck areas of fat and cool them down to this temperature. The fat cells freeze during the treatment. Over the next several months your body naturally remove the dead fat cells.
How much does CoolSculpting cost? Do you price match?
Each applicator has a different cost associated with it. CoolSculpting is completely customized to your body and what your goals are. We cannot give a cost because we haven’t seen you. We do not price match. With us you are paying for our experience and not for the service. What we sell are results. You do not want to price shop your body. CoolSculpting is not the same wherever you go. We have had to correct errors done by other clinics when patients try to save money. Our prices do not change and are the most competitive that the company will allow us to be without being penalized.
What can I expect when I come in for a free consultation?
First our CoolSculpting expert will take photos privately and discuss your goals. She will then measure you and see how the applicators fit best. Then she will give you the cost based on what applicators and how many treatments it will take for you to reach your goals.
What kind of results will I get?
With CoolSculpting there are no guarantees. Everyone handles the procedure differently and everyone has different expectations. Although individual results vary, what you can expect is an improvement.
Why should we come to you for CoolSculpting?
Our CoolSculpting expert has done more cycles than all the other providers in the region combined. She has also been one of the few technologists in the country to go to Coolsculpt University two times. We are the busiest Coolsculpt provider in the region.
Where can CoolSculpting be used?
The FDA has approved CoolSculpting to freeze and eliminate up to a quarter of the fat in these areas:
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Double chin
  • Back fat
  • Bra line fat
  • Upper arms
  • Flanks
  • Underneath the buttocks
Who should not have CoolSculpting?
People get confused about the goals of CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is a body-contouring procedure, not a weight-loss procedure. CoolSculpting is designed to treat areas of unwanted fat that are very difficult to target effectively with diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure, such as gastric bypass surgery. Generally, patients need to be within 10 percent of their ideal weight to be good candidates for CoolSculpting. You can think of CoolSculpting as a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.

Specifically, you should not have CoolSculpting is you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?
The benefits of CoolSculpting are numerous.
  • Remove 20-25 percent of the fat in the treatment areas.
  • Completely non-invasive.
  • No injections. No incisions.
  • During your session you can read, take a nap, watch videos, whatever.
  • There is no downtime.
  • There is no recovery.
  • There are no reactions.
  • FDA approval for eight different treatment areas.
  • No danger of skin burning or damage.
  • Over 6 million procedures have been done worldwide.
  • Just about anyone can have CoolSculpting done.
How does CoolSculpting compare to SculpSure?
The end goal is the same — to reduce the amount of stubborn fat in hard to target areas such as the abdomen and flanks. But CoolSculpting and SculpSure go about it in completely different methods. CoolSculpting uses controlled cooling to freeze these unwanted fat cells. SculpSure uses laser energy to heat and melt a percentage of the fat cells in the treatment areas.

CoolSculpting and SculpSure are both approved by the FDA for body contouring, but CoolSculpting continues to be approved for more areas (currently eight areas are approved). Thus far, SculpSure is only approved for the abdomen and the flanks.

Both procedures are meant to reduce stubborn pockets of fat; they are not intended as weight-loss procedures. Both are considered to be alternatives to surgical liposuction.

The sensations between the two procedures are completely different. CoolSculpting causes the treatment area to feel extremely cold for about 7 minutes, and then the area becomes numb. SculpSure warms the treatment areas to some higher intensities, and this can be uncomfortable. Some patients feel tingling and a sensation of cramping, followed by a brief period of cooling. There is some redness following a CoolSculpting treatment, but there is more after-procedure soreness with SculpSure. Still, most people can get back to their normal activities after their treatments with either procedure.

CoolSculpting has far and away the best track record. To date, over 6 million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed worldwide. SculpSure only received FDA approval in 2015, so it has a limited range of users thus far.

Is CoolSculpting covered by insurance?
CoolSculpting is considered to be an elective procedure by insurance companies, so it is not covered. At Medical Aesthetics and Wellness Center, we offer payment plans to help you pay for your CoolSculpting treatments.
